... That upgrading from my ancient 2007 version of Microsoft Office to the current version would bring me such joy, but holy crap it has.

Really? I’ve found every change of Office to just be relearning how to use it. It seems like they just shuffle things around, while functionally remaining very similar. Being computer savvy I adapt fairly quickly, but some people i work with, oh boy.

2016 is okay. 2010 was my favorite.

I’m learning 2016 now, it has some neat features that make sense but I don’t like the “look”. I prefer the fonts and colors of 2010.

that’s how Microsoft works. Once they get you used to it, time to change everything

The lack of colors is what bothers me, also the calendar is trash. Because of the way the calendar uses colors it’s sometimes tough to see what day you are on. Overall we use it because of it’s improved Office 365 features.

Yeah, like I said, doesn’t bother me too much. I wouldn’t care whether I’m using 2007 or 2017. Either way I can get the job done. I’ll get my document printed, I’ll get my excels calculated and I’ll get my emails sent. The main reason i can see to stay updated is for security purposes.

I’ve been able to customize the fonts in Outlook so at least I can tell the difference between read and unread emails. The default for unread emails was light blue non-bold.

Yeah, 2010 was visually the best compromise of old and new. I honestly still don’t like the ribbons, but they’re here to stay (too much time-consuming navigation, IMO). 2007 wasn’t bad, but all the ribbons and touchscreen features were still in growing pains.

Apparently 2016 has a lot of new outside data linking features that are pretty cool, but unless all your coworkers are using the same version, it’s not like you can share it widely. We’re mostly 2010, hoping to upgrade soon.

I still have 1 person who is holding out with 2010 here. Coincidentally I just told her on Monday that I’ll put it off as long as I can but eventually she’s going to have to upgrade because 2010 and Office 365 don’t exactly get along all the time.

I’m just glad I can have two spreadsheets open side by side now.

2010 and 2007 both did that, unless I’m completely missing what you’re saying.

For some reason, mine would not. You could have two open, but it would force one to be always in the background. No one could figure out why it was doing that, and my familiarity with computers is one half step up from a caveman banging rocks together.

You can’t have two separate windows open side by side—unless you start a new Excel process. In other words, make Excel run twice at the same time on the same computer, with each one independent of the other. This means they treat each other as totally different programs and you can arrange the windows as you want. To get the new Excel process, open Excel once, then middle-click (push the scroll wheel straight down) on the Excel taskbar icon. Once that’s done you can arrange the windows like this (Office 2010):

You can still get two windows side by side without a new process, it’s just more annoying (to me, anyway—you might prefer it). Basically MS Office programs open all documents under one process, so when you have two documents open they’re both there, but one is in behind the other. That’s why they won’t show side by side in the normal way. But if you look in the top right corner, below the regular window controls there’s another set:

Those control the files open in Excel. If you click the middle button, you get two spreadsheets under a common control set:

Kinja'd!!!

From there you can rearrange them however you want.

Glad to help :)

I’m actually not super wonderful with computers, but I do love my tricks/tweaks. Mostly I just find something that’s really irritating and scour google until I either find an in-depth permanent solution or a distracting nugget of nice shiny irrelevant information that I want to give a try NOW.
